Welcome and thank you for visiting my photo blog!
My name is Duane Bailey-Castro and I am an urban landscape and travel photographer. In between my teaching career and graduate studies, I pursue my love of photography. I’m self-taught and live in New York City.
The Harlem River Valley has been the primary focus of my photographic work. Since 2007, I have been exploring this largely under-appreciated region of the city learning about its fascinating past and in the process, trying to share that joy with others. I continue to be amazed by the fact that despite the seemingly inexhaustible number of New York stories that are produced, areas of this great city – in particular those at its periphery – still receive little to none of that attention. Perhaps my work can be of some help in offering a new perspective of a region and people, whose contributions have too often been at the margins of discourse about New York City’s rich history.
Like photography, travel is never far from my mind. An inquisitive student and romantic explorer at heart, I have an unbridled wanderlust for places and cultures both near and far and therefore, I try to hit the road whenever possible. If I’m not thinking about my next shoot, there’s a good chance I’m studying a map contemplating my next journey.
With this blog, it is my aim to share my experiences surrounding my photographic development, work, and travel.
Thank you once again for visiting and please feel free to share any feedback.
